Building and strengthening relationships and community is a critical component of school culture. Restorative practices is an essential process for creating a positive learning environment, building social capital, and resolving relational issues. Restorative practices can also be used to effectively deal with the aftermath of major behavior incidents calling for something more than traditional discipline approaches offer.

TRAINING: A professional learning experience within a Restorative community

During 2-day training, you will learn fundamental theory and practices for engaging with students, staff and parents in your school setting, and: Build relationships with a community of adult learners to improve your professional practice. Self-Reflect to build a deeper understanding of how Restorative Practices supports student/staff culture and wellbeing. Apply the Restorative Practices continuum, including circles that build social capital and respond to harm. Engage in Skill-building with the practices to gain proficiency in examining ways to address and respond to harm. Understand how Restorative Practices aligns to other initiatives including Trauma Sensitive Schools and Comprehensive School Mental Health supports. Explore strategies and resources to provide a unique pathway for implementation in your setting. Reflect on equitable practices in relation to building a restorative school culture.

IMPLEMENTATION PLANNING DURING TRAINING

Reflect on readiness for implementation of Restorative Practices During training, participants will create an implementation plan based on the NIRN (link to) stages of implementation.
