DESCRIPTION:
The Practical FBA training series is a 4?part series designed to teach schoolbased personnel with flexible roles (i.e., counselors, administrators) how to
complete a Practical FBA. By completing this training series, participants will learn how to conduct a simple and efficient FBA for students with mild to
moderate behavioral problems in a school setting and will receive a complete set of training materials including, a participant’s guide, supporting appendices, and a power point for each session. The average time to complete the practical FBA process for one student is 97 minutes. Information from the practical FBA will assist school teams in developing effective behavioral supports that
• prevent intensive problem behaviors from occurring
• teach alternative behaviors & desired behaviors based on function
• effectively respond when problem behaviors occur

Participants will learn how to conduct interviews and observations to precisely determine the relationship between student problem behavior and
the context, including WHAT the problem behaviors are & WHEN, WHERE, & WHY problem behaviors occur.

The practical FBA training is designed as a PBIS Tier 2 support for use with students who exhibit consistent mild?moderate behaviors that
• are not dangerous (e.g., talking out, running, not following directions, not completing work)
• occur in 1 to 2 school routines (e.g., specific classrooms/activities, lunch, recess)
• have not been adequately addressed
