(ONLINE) Practical Harm Reduction Ideas for Youth

November 17, 2022—1pm-2pm

— Register for only one session —
The link and passcode to the online Zoom session will be emailed to you approximately one week before the session

A harm reduction approach helps young people in practical, immediate ways. This presentation will provide options for school staff to share with young people to reduce harm in their lives when they have basic needs going unmet, housing instability, and unhealthy relationships. Staff will also learn how to access community-based resources and more options to expand young people's support networks.

Learning objectives:

1. Participants will recognize core elements of a harm reduction approach in supporting students.

2. Participants will be able to name at least 3 options for reducing harm for students facing unsafe situations and unmet basic needs.

3. Participants will learn about 2-3 options for community resources for students.

Claudine O'Leary is an independent consultant and non-profit leader, educating communities on how to effectively respond to youth and adults with life experience in the sex trade, as well as leading dynamic, youth-centered groups for teens with life experience in the sex trades and the streets. She has a BA from Northeastern Illinois University in Critical Pedagogy through the University Without Walls program. She draws on her life experience as a teen who experienced commercial sexual exploitation and many years of youth advocacy to inform her work.
