Wisconsin and the Civil War: A Day with the Wisconsin Veterans Muesum

Wisconsin’s participation in the Civil War helped define the state’s image to the nation while easily recognized icons from the war such as the famous “Iron Brigade”, “Hans Heg and the Scandinavian Regiment”, and “Old Abe the War Eagle” secured Wisconsin’s legacy on the national stage in the decades afterward. Join us as we explore these Civil War stories, highlighting the local and the state-wide impacts, and discuss ways to incorporate these stories into your curriculum and classrooms. We will also look at resources, opportunities, and ways that the Wisconsin Veterans Museum can help augment and support your classroom experience for your students.
