Spring Training for Data Specialists: Using WISExplore Resources to Support Continuous Improvement
Date: April 29 - 30, 2020
Hosted and Facilitated by DPI Partners with the WISExplore Team
Purpose: This face-to-face learning opportunity will bring teams together to build capacity for supporting continuous improvement in districts and their schools. Participants will learn about current, new, and enhanced WISExplore resources and tools that have been used in the field, and develop plans for strategic application within a continuous improvement process.
Participants: CESA Data Specialists and DPI partners and others by invitation (RSN Regional Services Network) consultants
Fees:
- Identified CESA Data Specialists will not be invoiced
- $50 registration fee per participant includes continental breakfast and lunch for 2 days.

Work Session Outcome & Topics: Data Specialists will further their expertise by:
- Understanding the role of IDEA and local special education programming within the overall educational system
- Identifying indicators that show whether the district’s mission, vision, values, and beliefs are practiced throughout all systems and daily operations
- Knowing the questions to ask about processes for identifying and supporting student needs
- Examining root causes of disproportionate representation of race/ethnic groups in special education
- Identifying data that informs questions into accountability and variability in special education data
- Understanding Special Ed Indicators and criteria data used in reporting and accountability
- Understanding critical disproportionality data and how to examine it
- Using WISEdash for Districts to locate and analyze data used in spec. ed. district profiles
- Exploring best practice in spec. ed. programs that can provide the foundation for practice inquiry
- Collaborating with RSN consultants and the TA network team on special education data inquiry
Technology - What to Bring:
- Laptop computer with access to the internet

- User rights access to local district data in WISEdash for Districts and the SAFE portal.
