The activities of this two-day Summer Institute will move teachers towards a deeper appreciation for the diverse purposes of assessment that can include: monitoring students’ progress, providing feedback on learning, and making instructional decisions. The summer institute is open to any secondary math or science teacher at a cost of $100 (lunch provided).
Twenty teachers will be selected to participate in the Summer Institute at no charge and be provided a $50 stipend at the conclusion of the project. Complete the form at this link to be considered for this project.
Teachers interested in this project must be available for a half-day follow-up meeting in September. The date and time of the September meeting will be selected by participants.
Project participants will be selected based on a willingness to share their SLO with others and the capacity to coach others in using data to inform instruction and writing SLOs. DPI defines an Effectiveness Coach as someone that supports peers with formative feedback, including support with “identification, understanding, and analysis of data; as well as the identification of target student populations, evidence sources, and appropriately rigorous SLO goals,” (DPI, 2013). The summer institute will build a foundation for teachers to provide support for others in working with assessment and data for SLOs. Building on this foundation, project participants will have guided practice with coaching conversations for developing SLOs to further add to their skills in supporting their peers. The half-day workshop in September will provide training through modeling of coaching conversations and practice.
