Engage learners at every grade level in all diciplines with systematic vocabulary instruction, using texts, instructional practices, and research-based strategies. In this workshop, participants will learn that through systematic vocabulary instruction, they are preaparing students for the Smarter Balanced Assessment and demonstrating effectiveness under the state's new Educator Effectiveness System. Participants will leave the workshop ready to support their students' indirct and direct acquisition of vocabulary words through
- Word learning strategies: contextual analysis, morphological analysis, use of resources
- Word consciousness
- Learning individual words
- Reading
- Listening

This event is the third event n the disciplinary literacy series.
Participants may apply for 2 graduate credits through Viterbo (pending approval) if attend three workshops from the Disciplinary Literacy series:
1) Dec. 2 Falling in Love with Close Reading (required for credit)
2) Jan. 22 Leveraging Systematic Vocabulary (required for credit)
3) Plus any one of the 2014-15 Disciplinary Literacy workshops
Cost:
Free to CESA 5 Title III Consortium Members
$50 for CESA 5 Center Members
$200 for all others
$25 early bird discount if registered by Jan 2, 2015
Graduate credit available through Viterbo (pending approval) $200 per credit (2 credits )
