Implementing the Next Generation Science Standards, Part 2
May 14, 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
CESA 8 – Gillette, WI
The recently released Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are certain to change the way that science education is delivered. The NGSS will challenge classroom teachers to help students build deeper understanding. Instructional models and classroom assessments will need to focus on utilizing all three dimensions of NGSS in an explicit and integrated way. The goal of this workshop is to provide you with tools and techniques to design assessments that gauge student understanding, build an instructional plan that provides ample opportunity to learn, and demonstrate their understanding.
In this second workshop in the series, participants will..
- Collaboratively plan instructional units using backwards design and the 5E instructional design model.
- Learn how to incorporate the Disciplinary Core Ideas, Crosscutting Concepts & Science Engineering Practices in to classroom activities and assessments.
- Design activities that merge science inquiry together with the Science & Engineering Practices.
- Explore the integration of NGSS Practices with Common Core ELA & Math Standards.
- Develop assessment tools to measure the depth of understanding and ability.
- Network with other Wisconsin science educators also implementing NGSS.
