The Next Generation Science Standards - 2nd Implementaion - Getting to know the Major Shifts
April 3, 2014
9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
CESA 8 Office – Aspen/Birch Rooms
The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) were released in the spring of 2013. Have you had a chance to explore them yet? This introductory online short-course will be your guide to exploring the new science standards and the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education that they were built upon. Take advantage of this opportunity to get to know the components of the new standards, before you begin the curriculum writing and aligning process.
Through a series of videos and activities, you will be introduced to the three dimension of NGSS; the Science and Engineering Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Crosscutting Concepts. Examine how these components will interact to guide how the next generation of students will learn science. Explore how the new standards have shifted science content and strive for deeper understanding at all grade levels.
Most importantly, we will investigate where your science program can go from here. Engage in online discussion about what it will take to implement these new standards. Identify the needs of educators at all levels to ensure a successful transition to a more comprehensive and powerful science program. Evaluate how NGSS can have a positive impact on your science curriculum and begin paving the path to full implementation.
Audience: Administrators, Curriculum Directors, and K-12 Science Educators are encouraged to attend.
Cost: $75 per participant for Curriculum Instruction and Assessment member School Districts. $150.00 for all others.
Presenter: Chad Janowski, Shawano High School, CESA 2, 7, & 8 Leadership Team
