SMARTBoards:  New Tools for the Classroom

Wednesday & Thursday, June 30 & July 1, 2010   (8:30-4:00)
@ Waupaca Middle School;  1149 Shoemaker Road, Waupaca

Facilitator: Joan Holman, Information Technology Instructor

Participants in this hands-on course will examine the new learning environment for teachers and students made possible through the effective use of interactive whiteboards (SMARTBoards). They will learn how to: 1) use the basic tools of the Notebook software to operate the SMARTBoard; 2) use Notebook software to create a SMARTBoard presentation that is enriched with graphic detail; 3) work with applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and web browsers on the SMARTBoard; and 4) locate SMARTBoard resources and lesson plans online.

Participants will discuss best practice examples and methodologies for assessing the impact of these tools on instruction. They will identify and discuss ways that SMARTBoards can be effectively used in their classrooms. Participants will use their new knowledge to develop a unit or project incorporating SMARTBoard use into their classroom curriculum or for professional development activities. Unit/project plans will be due one week following the last class session.  Materials and breaks will be provided. Lunch is "on your own".
