Praised by such noteables as The Sisters, Gail Boushe and Joan Moser and Ralph Fletcher, Aimee Buckner is the go-to expert for setting up and using a writer's notebook in your classroom. Though Aimee is a 4th grade teacher, her methods and strategies apply across the grades -- even throughout high school. Touted as "A great companion to the Daily 5," Notebook Know-How will help you become a great teacher of writing.

Let the reviews speak for themselves:

Notebook Know-How: Strategies for the Writer's Notebook is a useful resource for teachers new to notebooks or seasoned veterans. The author, Aimee Buckner, really takes the reader on a journey of the writer's notebook with easy-to-use strategies that are as sound as can be. Always bringing us back to trusting the writing will come and it won't always be good. Really it won't. The part on assessment is inspiring. I really found myself thinking about my own teaching, how I use notebooks, and how I might do it all better. Her writing is magic in how it creates a map of flexibility and specificity without ever preaching. Ralph Fletcher got it right: "That's the best kind of teacher renewal I can imagine." I concur. (Jeff Anderson)

This is a fantastic book that provides practical ideas to implement in any Writing classroom. The author refers often to an elementary classroom but I have been able to use many of the ideas with my 8th graders. If you are just starting writing workshop and need a reliable source for organization this is a great resource! (Teacher, California)

I have been using writer's notebooks with my students for years and always struggled with integrating them into the entire language arts curriculum. This book has several hands on strategies which illustrate ways to use the students' own writing to teach a variety of writing skills. There is also a very helpful chapter on assessing the notebook. One of the most helpful books on the subject I have seen! (D. Ramsay)
