Promoting Literacy and Language Development in Young Children

Description: With the increased emphasis on literacy development and the implementation of PALS PreK, teachers need strategies to embed literacy in developmentally appropriate play-based, language-rich routines and activities throughout the day.

We will discuss ways to "put it all together"--to foster literacy, language, social emotional development and make learning meaningful and fun for young children.

Presenters: Sharon Toellner: Curriculum Specialist and Joan Rice: EC Program Support

"Children learn through play and the active exploration of their environment." WMELS Guiding Principle

This workshop will include:

  • Engaging activities to promote oral language and literacy
  • Follow-up activities to support PreK PALS
  • Opportunities to network with other early educators
  • Strategies for supporting language and literacy through play
  • Review of connection between Common Core and WI Model Early Learning Standards

"The research in emergent literacy suggests that a language based approach to literacy instruction is most effective." PreK PALS

Cost:  $25  (Payment can be mailed to CESA 5: Attn Julia J., PO Box 564, Portage, WI 53901)
