Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction enacted a rule allowing school districts to hire non-certified to be issued a short term substitute permit, however, these individuals must hold a (four year) bachelor's degree, receive appropriate training, and be sponsored by a school district.

This hands-on training presents a positive, honest, and accurate account of what it really means to be a substitute teacher! Pertinent topics include, discipline/management techniques, important health and safety information, expectations from the classroom teacher, special education concerns, and sample emergency lesson plans, with time allowed for networking and questions from participants. The application process is also explained.

Presenters, Sherry Mayernick and Sandy Petersen are DPI endorsed instructors and active substitute teachers themselves, they will present this one-day, comprehensive training seminar for persons interested in obtaining a Substitute Teacher Permit.

When the DPI implemented this emergency rule allowing interested individuals to substitute teach, there was a requirement that the training be completed before the emergency permit was issued. TEAM Educators Substitute Teacher Training Seminar was the model program used by the DPI to serve as an example of the type of training required.
