Add POP to Your Curriculum
Use web based media and multimedia applications to build student interest and relevance into your lessons with Pop Culture icons, trends and fads. This workshop will offer easy to use web resources and applications for any age students and any discipline. The teacher will walk away with a treasure trove of ideas on how to infuse Pop Culture references into their curriculum to assist in the understanding of key concepts, develop critical thinking, inference skills, interpretation skills, and vocabulary recognition. The participants will review examples such as how to study political viewpoints using the Simpsons, math with Ma and Pa Kettle or Sponge Bob, language with scenes from movies spanning 40-years of slang, or the science of Star Wars. Participants will leave with ready to use materials and a wealth of resources to build their own Pop Culture lessons for their curriculum.
Workshop Objectives
Participants will:
- develop a resource bank of pop culture images, videos, and artifacts that bring student interest and relevance to their current curriculum.
- develop skills in incorporating pop culture icons, trends and fads into generating new lessons.
