Self-Directed Supports...A New Day for Transition With the coming of Family Care and IRIS and with Self-Directed Supports (SDS) within them, this opens up exciting new opportunities for transition to adult life for youth who will be eligible for long-term support.
- Where do you want to live and who do you want to live with?
- Do you want to work or go to school?
- How do you balance your benefits and goals for your life?
Dennis Harkins will help us answer these questions and think about the possibilities with SDS. Dennis has worked for many years across North America helping self-determination and self-directed supports to become a reality for people who need long term support. He is now working with people with disabilities and their families across Wisconsin to help them create support that makes sense for them.
Tammie Biddle and her daughter TaraLyn will attend to share first-hand experiences navigating the systems of Family Care and IRIS. They will share their story of frustrations and successes from the viewpoint of a parent/guardian of a child with autism and will be available to answer questions.
Columbia County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) staff members will also be onsite as a resource.
Target Audience: Individuals with disabilities, parents and teachers.
Dinner will be provided.
