Description:
Join us in learning skills and techniques to teach in an online/blended classroom environment! (A blended classroom will have student/teacher meet online and in person.) Participants in this six module course will examine the new learning environment for teachers and students made possible through the effective use of online tools. You can participate in this course while relaxing at home! There is a weekly online “GoToMeeting” conversation that everyone is required to participate in!

Course Outline/Activities:
1. Explore research and best practices outlining strategies to encourage active learning, interaction, participation, and collaboration in the online environment.
2. Explore a variety of online resources and Web 2.0 tools which can be incorporated into online/blended learning units.
3. Design a standards-based online instructional unit, with assessments, incorporating research and best practice principles and potential modifications for students with special needs.
4. Develop online/blended learning experiences which promote student success through regular feedback, prompt response, and clear expectations.
5. Outline a plan to model, guide & encourage legal, ethical, safe & healthy behavior related to technology use.

Successful completion of this course will have fulfilled all professional learning requirements for DPI’s Online Teaching Certification.

The course will be facilitated by Susan Fulks (formerly of CESA 5) and Pamela Hilleshiem-Setz of CESA 5.

Teacher Standards

WES4The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies, including the use of technology to encourage children’s development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.

Administrator Standards
WAS1The administrator has an understanding of and demonstrates competence in the teacher standards under s. PI 34.02.
WAS2The administrator leads by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared by the school community.
WAS3The administrator manages by advocating, nurturing and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to pupil learning and staff professional growth.
Pupil Services
WPS1The pupil services professional understands the teacher standards under s. PI 34.02.
WPS3The pupil services professional has the ability to use research, research methods and knowledge about issues and trends to improve practice in schools and classrooms.
Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
