9:00 to 11:30      Professional Development - Presenter Mr. Stephen Ventura

Below are some of the rational to participate in this opportunity and to enhance our understanding and ability to lead in this area.

·    Teachers have spent a tremendous amount of time learning the common core, now they need to learn how to effectively assess them.  If they teach the common core, but assess in a traditional fashion, proficiency levels will be harder to reach.  Our assessments need to change and quickly because we need this data before October 31st of 2014 (that is the deadline for our SLO's to be written)

·    Teachers will need certain assessment data at the beginning of the next school year to begin writing their SLO's as part of their new evaluation...Mr. Ventura will be teaching participants how to collect the data needed.

·    Classroom, school, and district assessments need to shift from Blooms Taxonomy to Webb's matrix due to the common core and the smarter balanced assessment...Mr. Ventura will be teaching participants how to make this shift and providing them with templates and resources to make it happen.

·     Classroom assessments need to start embracing DOK's today...he will be teaching participants how to do this.

·     Participants will have the entire afternoon to work with other participants from their discipline/grade level to begin creating these assessments

·     Participants will leave with assessments started and hopefully some completed that they may begin using immediately in the classroom.

·    This does not just impact math and ELA, it impacts ALL departments and the day is structured to support every department (including special education)

·    If participants cannot make the 18th training, he will be doing the training again (only it won't be modified for our region and districts).
