Description: Policies, protocols, interventions and post-vention strategies are presented for both
violent and non-violent yet traumatic incidents involving students and/or staff. Participants walk through the interventions needed in the first hour, second hour, throughout the day, and at the end of the day.
Addresses the potentially suicidal student, suicide, responses following a violent or non-violent death, legal liability issues, protocol for dealing with potentially violent adults/parents, fighting, weapons in the building, shooting in progress, environmental safety, security and more.

Session Objective: To increase participants knowledge of trauma specific reactions, interventions and post-vention strategies and the policies and procedures needed to support these strategies.

Learner Objectives: The learner will be able to:

  • Identify strengths and weakness in their current crisis plan
  • Determine additional policies and procedures needed to deal with violent and non violent, yet
  • traumatic events
  • Distinguish between trauma reactions and grief reactions and the different interventions
  • appropriate to either reaction
  • Identify critical areas of liability related to their interventions during and following such incidents.

Audience: Crisis management teams, administration, educators, community partners, law
enforcement.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
