With budgets continually being cut, grant money is becoming more and more important for funding science, math and STEM materials and professional development. Appropriate for Election Day, we welcome individual teachers or school/district groups to join us for a hands-on grant writing workshop where we expect that you will have a complete application by the end of the day. In the morning portion of this workshop we will review grant writing strategies:

1) connecting to clear needs,

2) connecting to best practices in math as seen in CCSS and NCTM resources,

3) creating a clear plan for improving achievement, and

4) assessing the impact of the work funded by the grant.

We will also help you connect your project and professional development ideas with available grants. In the afternoon we will have facilitated, collaborative work time. You will be able to work on writing your grant and be expected to help review the grant of at least one other group/individual. As part of the registration cost, the facilitator (Kevin Anderson) will also be a critical reviewer of your grant application, providing you with extensive, personal feedback on your completed application (whenever it is done).

Important details:

·         If you’re interested in a math grant, teachers and/or schools MUST be NCTM members by October 15th. Applications for many NCTM grants are due by November 9th.

·         Individuals or groups should bring a strong letter of support from their building principal, which should be on letterhead and verify teaching status.

There are plans for another grant writing workshop in early Spring, but we felt that with the abundance of math grants due Nov. 9th, we wanted to support efforts to apply for these grants too.

You can view grant ideas on the CESA #2 grant website: http://www.cesa2.k12.wi.us/programs/stem/STEMgrants.cfm

FYI - If you’re considering a school garden or are a rural school seeking technology funding, there are two grants with deadlines before this meeting: Subaru Healthy Sprouts (Oct 31) and the OPASTCO Tech Grants for Rural Schools (Nov 1).

Cost for registration and follow-up grant support: $40/individual or $80/school or district team working together. Cost includes lunch and snacks and coffee. (Please register individually.CESA #2 will adjust for team registration and invoice you for a team. Contact Peggy with questions)
