Description:

This online course will examine a variety of online tools to improve technology integration in the classroom: Internet searching strategies (pre-searching, search engines, meta-search engines, directories, advanced searches), Web evaluation, Internet use concerns (copyright, safety, plagiarism, cyber bullying), Teacher Resources (BadgerLink, Thinkfinity, American Memories, etc…) and Teacher Tools (e.g., wiki, social bookmarking, webquests, hotlists, virtual field trips). Participants will examine resources, strategies, and ideas through weekly discussions with other participants.
Participants will engage in both structured and independent exploration of online searching strategies and resources that can be used in enhancing their classroom instruction.

During this online class you will:

  • Explore new ways of teaching and learning only possible using online resources.
  • Examine online search engines and strategies that will improve student and teacher use of the Internet.
  • Explore online resources for website evaluation.
  • Examine Internet use concerns and how to manage in classroom.
  • Explore a collection of online resources that can be used by students and teachers.
  • Complete a learning journal that examines their ideas and experience during the course and how these ideas apply to their teaching position.
  • Create an activity/lesson plan that incorporates the effective use of one or more techniques from the course for their classroom.
  • Actively participate in all online class discussions.


CESA 5 registration fee:     $ 250
**  Discounted registration fee of $ 175 for educators who register by January 22nd from full-service ITSS districts.  Adams-Friendship, Columbus, Montello, New Lisbon, Pardeeville, Portage, Poynette, Randolph, Rio, Rosholt, Sauk Prairie, and Wisconsin Dells.
Registration deadline is Friday, January 29th.  Please submit purchase order or check to Janet Gaber, CESA 5, within two weeks of registration for this class.  Thank you!

Optional Viterbo fee for two graduate credits:  $ 180
Viterbo University enrollment forms and payment information will be sent prior to the start date.  Completed forms and payment must be received by Friday, January 29th.

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
