The 2nd in a series of Interventions That Work® focusing on Tier I and Tier II Instruction

Using a literacy processing continuum, you will learn how to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of your students and accelerate reading and writing proficiency. The components of Guided Reading Plus are designed to promote oral language development, problem-solving strategies, comprehension strategies, word-solving strategies, the writing process, knowledge of text structures, and task persistence.

Topics covered:
Assessing and selecting students for the intervention
Assessment procedures for guiding teaching decisions
Analyzing reading behaviors to inform teaching
Documenting progress and keeping records
Understanding fiction and nonfiction texts– analyzing text characteristics
Teaching for vocabulary development, fluency and a deep understanding of texts
Instructional procedures for developing word-solving skills
Close reading of texts
Teaching for writing about reading
Reflecting on the effectiveness of teaching

The Comprehensive Intervention Model® employs individual and small-group interventions that include:
• Emergent Language and Literacy Groups
• Guided Reading Plus Groups
• Assisted Writing Groups
• Writing Process Groups
• Comprehension Focus Groups
• Comprehension Focus Groups in Content Area

Cost: $50.00 for Curriculum Instruction and Assessment Department member districts
           $100. 00 for all other districts

 

 

CANCELLATION POLICY: Any registration cancellation must be received 7 days prior to the scheduled date to receive a refund or avoid invoicing. CESA 8 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 8 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. Registered participants not in attendance on the day of the session will be charged the full registration fee.
