Overview

This is an opportunity to learn and have hands on experience with a scientifically based Phonological awareness and literacy screening tool that measures Preschoolers knowledge of important literacy fundamentals.  This assessment reflects skills that are predictive of future reading success and measures a variety of items.  We will have the afternoon to learn about PALS Pre-K, explore the materials and network around how we can incorporate this information as we plan curriculum, RTI grouping of young children, and as well as problem solve around potential barriers and challenges.  Teachers will understand the importance of each skill assessed and know what to teach next.  PALS helps guide teachers to identify student strengths and needs, as well as to design the most targeted instruction in the fundamental areas of early literacy.

We will also be action planning around how to use this Progress Monitoring tool with the Early Childhood Special Education students, and how we can make it appropriate for them and still gain valuable data to plan for curriculum for the children.

12:30-3:30

We will join together for a networking session with participants of  5 year old Kindergarten who will be meeting at the same time.  We will discuss how we can collaborate, share useful data for planning purposes and how we can incorporate this literacy screening tool in our programs. We will also discuss how to implement developmentally appropriate literacy strategies into the curriculums.

Each School District who attends will receive their OWN PALS Pre K kit to KEEP!!
