Pursuits:

  • Start up a Literacy Leadership Team among CESA 8 districts to create and enhance capacity of literacy knowledge within schools.
  • Establish the Literacy Leadership Team as a collaborative network that fosters a literate climate to support effective teaching and learning.
  • Support teachers in the CESA 8 region and beyond in the continual advancement of quality literacy practices.

Purpose:

  • Provide opportunities for collegial dialogue
  • Explore new products and trends
  • Empower and support group members to work toward common goals in their districts.

Steps Toward Literacy Success

  • Understand the theory and research on how literacy develops.
  • Model and demonstrate literacy strategies to support and encourage developing readers.
  • Help students to see themselves as successful readers, growing in confidence and competence, and setting goals to increase literacy achievement.
  • Develop a literacy mandate for the school/district, with teams of teachers engaged in building competent readers and writers.

Network Fee: $200.00 per person for CESA 8 Title 1 school districts. $250.00 per person all other districts

Judy Menard is the Literacy/Intervention Specialist and Title I Coordinator for CESA 8. After 15 years as a classroom teacher, Judy received Literacy Coach training from Linda Dorn and Carla Soffos in the Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy Model. She was a Literacy Coach in the Shawano School District for 7 years prior to working for CESA 8. As a Literacy Coach she worked with staff and provided literacy interventions. Judy looks forward to both learning and sharing information about best literacy research and practice

Maureen Schiefelbein is a Reading Specialist for Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School District. She has 24 years of experience in the field of education, ten of those years in her current role. She received Literacy Coaches training through UALR in 2009 and Reading Recovery Training in 2011. She has extensive background of the Comprehensive Literacy Model and is excited to share her knowledge of literacy with interested literacy professionals.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Any registration cancellation must be received 7 days prior to the scheduled date to receive a refund or avoid invoicing. CESA 8 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 8 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. Registered participants not in attendance on the day of the session will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 8 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment or inclement weather. Participants will be notified via email through myQuickReg.com if a cancellation occurs.
