Cyberbullying
Kids have been bullying each other for generations.
The latest generation, however, has been able to utilize technology to expand their reach
and the extent of their harm. This phenomenon is being called cyberbullying, defined as:
“willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices.”

PRESENTER:
Justin W. Patchin, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at UW-Eau Claire, Co-founder of the Cyberbullying Research Center, Nationally recognized author and presenter on teens and technology, cyberbullying, social networking and sexting.

DESCRIPTION:
This presentation will cover a broad overview of cyber-bullying, including issues parents, educators, and teens need to know about how youth use and misuse technology to cause harm to their peers. The presentation will define and provide examples of cyberbullying and discuss the role of teens and adults in preventing and responding to inappropriate online behaviors. It will also describe many of the online environments popular among adolescents today and strategies to use to make sure they are used safely and responsibly.

OUTCOMES:
After participating in this workshop, educators will be able to:

  • Identify popular online environments among adolescents today and recognize various forms of cyberbullying;
  • Understand the potential emotional, psychological, and behavioral consequences of cyberbullying;
  • Identify how adolescents are using social networking websites and teach youth how to use social networking responsibly;
  • Know how to respond to cyberbullying incidents and the extent to which school personnel can get involved in cases that involve electronic communication (on or off campus);
  • Describe the current legal issues concerning cyberbullying;
  • Understand the potential legal, social, and emotional consequences of sexting;
  • Know the necessary elements of a comprehensive school cyberbullying policy, and;
  • Recognize warning signs and identify important strategies for preventing cyberbullying.

$160.00 per participant

the Department of Public Instruction (DPI)
and the CESA Statewide Network (CSN).

Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.


Dietary Restrictions: Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.


Weather Conditions: If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop.
