Investigation into Assistive Technology

Technology has exploded onto the education scene and with it comes opportunity!
Let’s explore these new tools and how they can help support the learning efforts of struggling students.
We will look at iPads, Smartboards, interactive web content, new and emerging options in e-text access and use of the AIM navigator to guide consideration of NIMAS compliance during the IEP process. Even phone technology is on the table! It will be a fast paced day of exploration!

Options that will be explored

• What tasks are my students struggling to complete?
• How can technology help ?
• How can interactive websites help students explore and grasp concepts in new ways?
• How can we use interactive whiteboards to increase action in learning and access to all?
• What are some options for supporting reading, writing and project production?
• What can e-text, mobiles and digital options look like in my classroom?
• How can I reach our more complicated students?

$50.00 per person from AT Member School Districts
$100.00 for all other participants
 

Participants are encouraged to bring laptops, iPads or other mobile devices.

Marcia Obukowicz has been working in the assistive technology field for over 15 years as the regional consultant in CESA 9. She is a a certified Smartboard trainer and holds a training lab for Boardmaker software.. In addition she adds 15 years of experience as an OT in the school setting, including 10 years of practice in a full inclusion model school. She is currently working with 5 districts on iPad roll out programs and 10 district projects focusing on NIMAS compliance. In addition to her AT duties, Marcia coordinated a state TEACH grant known as PALSS, Project to Achieve increased Literacy for Struggling Students that focused on technology supports for struggling students in the regular ed settings. Her main focus in Assistive Technology has been in AT supports in the inclusion environment, the writing process and for students in the severe/profound population.
