In order to provide support to the increased number of special education administrators throughout the state, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), the Regional Service Network (RSN), and Wisconsin Council for Administrators and Supervisors of Special Services (WCASS) are working collaboratively in the planning, presenting, and participation of the New Directors Academy each summer, and follow-up meetings during each school year.

Agenda:

2:00-2:15 pm Welcome

2:15-3:00 pm Seclusion and Restraint, presented by Lynn Boreson, Consultant,DPI
Lynn will provide an overview of Seclusion and Physical Restraint utilizing the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (WDPI) Directives on the Appropriate Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion as well as referring to IDEA complaint decisions in this area.  Questions and Answers will follow the presentation.

3:30-3:45 pm BREAK

3:45-4:45 Paraprofessionals in Special Education, presented by Suzan Van Beaver, Consultant, DPI
Suzan will provide an overview regarding the appropriate use of paraprofessional in special education, as well as licensing issues.  She will refer to content of a soon to be issued WDPI Bulletin on this topic.  Questions and Answers to follow.

Special Education
Suspension/Expulsion Ratesdiscrepancy between the rate of students with disabilities being suspended or expelled from school more than 10 days
Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
