The Differentiated Classroom
Menominee Tribal School is going to be hosting a professional development opportunity for our staff members next summer titled, “The Differentiated Classroom.” This will take place August 8-9-10, 2012 at the Menominee Convention Center:
The Differentiated Classroom, Grades K-12 with Gretchen Goodman.
Teachers all across the country are expected to differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of all learners, from gifted to struggling. No longer does one size fit all in school. Join veteran teacher, Gretchen Goodman, for an overview of the building blocks of differentiated instruction combined with numerous student-tested, practical strategies that teachers can use in their classrooms to reach all learners. In addition, explore tiered instruction and its potential to transform your classroom. Gretchen introduces a variety of tiered activities you can readily use. And at the end of this session, you'll have the confidence to level classroom activities to help all learners, regardless of skill level, work on the same content and concepts.
The casino will have a soup/sandwich luncheon available for individuals to purchase so people don’t have to travel for lunch. I would just need a rough estimate.
GRETCHEN GOODMAN believes and promotes the concept that we can adapt our classrooms so that ALL children can learn. Gretchen has developed and gathered together dozens of activities and strategies to accomplish these goals. Gretchen’s various work experiences as a practicing educator, instructional support teacher, RTI intervention specialist, and staff development leader enable her to provide educators and parents with practical, hands-on strategies that are applicable for enhancing the learning of all children. She is also the best-selling author of Inclusive Classrooms from A to Z: A Handbook for Educators; I Can Learn: Activities for Gray Area Children; More! I Can Learn!; author of the new book, Interventions for Struggling Learners: Putting RTI into Practice, and co-author of The More Ways I Teach, The More Students I Reach. Gretchen guides the participants in her workshops through extensive training in many areas including Response to Intervention, Differentiating Instruction, Accommodating Differently-Abled Children in a Regular Classroom, Standards Based IEPs, Bullying, Positive Behavior Supports, ADD/ADHD issues, and the controversial topic of Inclusion. Most importantly, the teachers in her workshops relate to the fact that Gretchen has spent 34 years as a practicing public school teacher.
