Given a functional understanding of the unique neurology of students with autism, participants will learn how to implement evidence based positive behavior interventions and supports to improve academic, social, and emotional skills of students with autism spectrum disorders through the development of Behavior Interventions Plans based on Functional Assessment of behavior.

This full day workshop is appropriate for any educators or family members assisting students on the autism spectrum. Participants will review the basics of functional assessment and behavior intervention plans with an emphasis on the types of questions to consider for students on the autism spectrum. Basic data collection processes as well as how to think about and use data will be a key area of focus. Resources and adaptations of specific evidence based practices will be reviewed based on the National Professional Development Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders. Participants are encouraged to register in school teams so that they can engage in activities directly related to current student needs. It is hoped that participants will register for a follow up presentation in the spring as well as participate in free web based trainings throughout the school year.
