Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) Workshop - Grades 2-6

CESA #3 - Monday, November 9, 2009
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.


Workshop Description: PALS is a field-tested, teacher-friendly and inexpensive reading- readiness program. In this workshop, participants will learn how to conduct peer-mediated reading instruction for students in 2nd grade through 6th grade. They will learn how to prepare students to work together constructively on strategic reading tasks that concentrate on increasing reading performance and building comprehension skills.

About the Presenter: Loulee Yen is the PALS Outreach Coordinator and also coordinates a large-scale PALS project at Vanderbilt University for Dr. Doug Fuchs that includes three sites in Nashville, Minneapolis, and South Texas. She has worked with hundreds of PALS teachers over the past decade. Loulee has worked with many school districts to help teachers learn how to implement PALS reading in their classrooms.

*Please Note: Loulee will be presenting from Vanderbilt via interactive video conferencing.

Audience: Grades 2-6 regular education teachers, reading teachers, special educators, curriculum directors, school psychologists, principals, paraprofessionals, and directors of special education.

Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA #3 at least one week prior to the scheduled event to cancel and receive a full refund of your registration fee. Cancellations not received at least one week prior to the registered event will be charged the full registration fee. CESA #3 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot. Accommodations: If you need an accommodation to participate including interpreter services (sign language or other spoken language) please email the workshop contact to set up these services. A two-week notice is appreciated. CESA #3 is handicapped accessible.
