Workshop Description
This workshop will explore current thinking and practices in assessing learners in elementary literacy programs. Framing the presentation around eight critical
belief statements from his book Accessible Assessment, the audience will be actively involved in examining and enhancing current efforts to power datadriven reading instruction. Practical tools and ideas will be shared to show how consideration of sensible techniques can lead us back to counting what really
counts in accelerating the progress of all readers.

Presenter:  Michael P. Ford—Professor—U of W— Oshkosh
Michael P. Ford is a professor in the Dept. of Reading Ed at the U of W—Oshkosh. Ford has been working with preservice and inservice teachers for the past 25
years. He is a former Title I Reading and First Grade teacher. He is the co-author of five books including Accessible Assessment, Do-able Differentiation,
Reaching Readers, Books and Beyond and Where Have All the Bluebirds Gone all published by Heinemann. He is one of the senior authors of LEAD 21—
the new core reading series from McGraw Hill—Wright Group.

WPS3The pupil services professional has the ability to use research, research methods and knowledge about issues and trends to improve practice in schools and classrooms.
WPS5The pupil services professional understands the organization, development, management and content of collaborative and mutually supportive pupil services programs within educational settings.
WPS6The pupil services professional is able to address comprehensively the wide range of social, emotional, behavioral and physical issues and circumstances which may limit pupils’ abilities to achieve positive learning outcomes through development, implementation and evaluation of system-wide interventions and strategies.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received by the registration deadline date stated on the event for a refund to be issued. Persons registering and not in attendance on the day of the session will be charged the full registration fee (substitutions are accepted). CESA 12 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email or phone if a cancellation occurs.
