NOTE: THIS IS A REPEAT WORKSHOP FROM THE PAST TWO YEARS..
Workshop Content: This workshop includes two 1-day sessions. Both the IEP meeting process and procedural requirements will be addressed. Data from SPP Indicator # 8 surveys of parents and the Special Education Procedural Compliance Self-Assessment process will be discussed. DPI documents including the Guide to Writing IEPs – 2010 Revision, The Guide to Standards & IEPs, and the self-assessment checklist for annual IEPs will be used. Both sessions will be hands on and interactive.
Participants should bring several IEPs to review and analyze during both sessions.
DAY 1: During this session participants will review and discuss all elements of the IEP for procedural compliance. Working in groups, participants will use samples and their own IEPs to self-assess and identify their individual needs for further study. There will also be discussion on conducting the IEP meeting and meaningful parent involvement.
DAY 2: Prerequisite–must attend Day 1 training on October 10 2012! During this session participants will work with the DPI Guide IEP examples and other samples to look at effective practice for writing elements of the IEP, continue to evaluate and update their own IEPs, and problem solve writing troublesome parts of the IEP such as frequency and amount of supplementary aids & services. Extensive time will be used for participant questions.
Presenter: Kathy Laffin is an independent special education consultant with extensive experience as a classroom special education teacher and regional professional development provider. She also worked 3 years for the department of public instruction before retiring to Northwestern Wisconsin.
