This pilot increases the capacity of school teams in reviewing and improving K-5 reading instruction, while connecting the systemic approach to universal level reading instruction within a Response to Intervention (RtI) framework.

Audience
This training is designed for schools teams that include K-5 grade level teachers, reading instructors, reading specialists, literacy coaches, instructional leaders, and building administrators. Registration will be capped at 50 participants.

School teams of three or more are required to attend all three days of the training.

Day 1 Outcomes

  • Understand the need for a strong systemic foundation built upon common beliefs on reading instruction and the Common Core State Standards.
  • Review and analyze the five instructional components from the National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary.

Day 2 Outcomes

  • Continued review and analysis of the five instructional components from the National Reading Panel.
  • Understand the effectiveness of systemic best practice in universal reading instruction.

Day 3 Outcomes

  • Explore systemic best practice in universal reading instruction through research and evidence based instructional strategies, and instructional time recommendations.
  • Understand how high quality universal reading instruction relates to the WI-RtI vision and other essential elements, all within your local Response to Intervention (RtI) framework.
  •  Action Plan to improve your school’s universal level reading instruction K-5

Preparation
Participants should bring documentation of their current reading programs, practices, and strategies used to deliver K-5 universal reading instruction.

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
