Cognitive Guided Instruction Workshop

This workshop will give an overview of the CGI method for teaching mathematics. Learn how to encourage your students to develop an in-depth understanding of numbers and math concepts. Learn how to understand children's thinking and how to build on that knowledge. Learn to reflect on ways that children think about and solve word problems.

Instructors: Laura Klescewski from Wabeno School District and Pat Schwenke from Menominee Indian School District. Both have been using CGI strategies for 4 school years with their special education students. Laura teaches junior high and high school learning disabled students and Pat teaches high school cognitive disabled students.

Participants will:

  • distinguish between the different problem types
  • use the problem types to asses and provide instruction
  • recognize the developmental stages of mathematical thinking
  • recognize the different ways students learn and how to use that to differentiate instruction
  • walk away with hands-on activities, assessment tools, and many, many word problems to get started with

Participants will need to bring base 10 manipulative's and or unifex cubes if you have them.

Fee:     $475.00 for non-members
            $375.00 for members
Lunch is included all 5 days.

Note:  Possible graduate credit for the class with an additional cost.
