The 2011-2012 STEM Connects: Enhancing Teacher Quality and Student Proficiency grant will focus on probability, statistics, number and operations and algebraic thinking. Field experience will be focusing on architecture and construction with an emphasis on engineering. The major science focus will be on science inquiry and science frameworks with a focus on engineering practices for K-12.

STEM Connects provides a $500 stipend/week long institute.  Participants also have an opportunity to earn 5 UW-Platteville credits at a cost of $100 per credit.  Professors Jodean Grunow, Tim Deis, Lisa Riedle, and Leigh Monhardt from UW-Platteville serve as our faculty.  Materials, a mileage reimbursement, overnight accommodations, light breakfasts and lunches are also provided as part of the grant.

The grant was written to focus on classroom teachers who use mathematics in their content and special education teachers who teach students in grades 3-10.  Math coaches and Title 1 teachers responsible for mathematics instruction and intervention are also invited!  This grant was written for the CESA 5 Student Achievement Consortium. We hope to serve 40 teachers from the following districts Adams-Friendship, Almond-Bancroft, Auburndale, Baraboo, Cambria-Friesland, Fall River, Lodi, Montello, Necedah, Nekoosa, New Lisbon, Pardeeville, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Poynette, Princeton, Randolph, Reedsburg, Rio, Rosholt, Sauk Prairie, Tri-County, Wautoma, Westfield, Wild Rose, and Wisconsin Rapids.
