Almost 7,000 students drop out of high school every day (Alliance for Excellent Education, 2006). One of the most commonly cited reasons for this is that students simply do not have the literacy skills to keep up with the high school curriculum.
The Adolescent Literacy Leaders Network will focus on reviewing current resources, learning and practicing best practices in reading and learning strategies, and programming for professional development back in districts.
- Group compromised of reading teachers, specialists, or literacy leaders who work with middle and high school teachers
- Three full day meetings throughout the year are included. Topics may include sharing of best practice, assessment tools, and interventions.
- Time will be allotted during each meeting to establish a framework for professional development roll out to be conducted by each district Literacy Leader
- Adolescent Literacy Leaders Network members will receive discounted registration on the writing workshop offered through CIA
Member districts of Adolescent Literacy Level 1 – Basic Service may send a maximum of four people to each session. Additional participants may attend for a fee of $125 per meeting with the purchase of Level 1 Basic Service.

Participant Cancellation Policy:
You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.
Dietary Restrictions:
Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.
Weather Conditions:
If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA 4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.
Additional Accommodations:
If you need an accommodation to participate including interpreter services (sign language or other spoken language) please email the workshop contact to set up these services. A two-week notice is appreciated.
