Thank you for your interest in the Substitute Teacher Training provided by CESA 6. We are thrilled that you are considering a role in substitute teaching, especially as there is a significant demand for substitute teachers across Wisconsin.

This training is for individuals who possess an Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution and are either new to substitute teaching or looking to enhance their skills in this field.

Our program offers hands-on training that simulates real classroom experiences. A certified instructor will demonstrate various teaching strategies that are effective and practical for substitute teachers. You will also learn foundational teaching principles to better prepare for future assignments in substitute teaching.

For those applying for the Three-Year Short-Term Substitute Teacher License, this training is a requirement by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). If you already hold or are eligible for an educator license, you may want to check if you qualify for the Five-Year Long-Term Substitute Teacher License, which does not require this training.

Please follow the linked resources for further information about the Three-Year Short-Term Substitute Teacher License mandated by DPI.

Please note: Participation in CESA 6 training is part of the process for obtaining a Substitute Teacher License and working in school districts. We also recommend visiting specific school district websites to understand their hiring processes and requirements for substitute teachers.

Your sub-training confirmation email will be sent from events@cesa6.org. If you don't immediately receive your email, please search "events@cesa6.org" and check your Spam.

WI Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has separate fees associated with the license application.

ADDITIONAL FEES (Estimated Costs)
 WI DPI Application Fee  $125
 Official Transcripts  $7-15
 Fingerprints (if needed$36 through Fieldprint
