This in-depth workshop will guide participants through types of writing, common barriers to writing, and different types of writing assessments. Additionally, we’ll dive deeply into feedback: teacher-to-student, peer-to-peer, and student self-reflection. Participants will leave the training with a vision for writing assessment in their classroom, school, and/or district.

Learning Intentions

  • Participants will develop comprehensive assessment strategies for writing in a range of genres suitable for different grade levels and content areas.

  • Participants will examine how to differentiate assessment approaches while maintaining consistency in assessment standards.

  • Participants will develop strategies for offering constructive feedback on student writing to promote growth in writing skills.

  • Participants will explore ways to engage students in the writing process.

  • Participants will discover techniques for providing targeted support to meet the diverse needs of students.
