Cornerstone of RtI Data-Based Decision Making Practices

Join CESA 4 and UW-La Crosse as we welcome Professor Mark R. Shinn. This workshop will describe how CBM (Curriculum Based Measurement) can be used in five forms of Progress Monitoring, from benchmarking of all students, to special education eligibility and IEP goals and how screening data can be used not only for early identification, but for periodic, annual, and 3-year reevaluations to judge whether academic discrepancies are still significant of the “gap” is being reduced.

Participants will:
Learn what CBM is and isn’t, especially with respect to common myths about short tests and misinterpretations as fluency measures.
Learn practical strategies for progress monitoring with careful attention to goal setting, including fewer, but more relevant IEP goals.
Learn how to make screening (universal or individual) feasible, based on academic area and grade.
Learn to assess the dual discrepancy for purposes of special education decision making.
