This 6-part series will hone in on one component of science-based literacy: (1) brain research, knowledge building, & oral language development; (2) phonological & phonemic awareness and phonics; (3) vocabulary; (4) fluency; (5) reading; (6) writing. We will spend the first part learning about the research and strategies for the focused component and the second half evaluating our current instructional materials for how the component is taught and integrating additional strategies and routines.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn and study the research behind each component of science-based literacy instruction within a comprehensive reading program.
  • Evaluate instructional materials & practices for each component.
  • Integrate and apply evidence-based practices & strategies into current materials and lessons.

 

This workshop is offered exclusively to those districts participating in Universal School Improvement (LS1) Services including: Abbotsford, Bloomer, Chippewa Falls, Colby, Eau Claire, Flambeau, Gilman, Gilmanton, Granton, Greenwood, Ladysmith, Lake Holcombe, Loyal, Mondovi, Neillsville, New Auburn, Owen-Withee, Spencer, and Thorp.
