2024 Engineering Machine Design Contest
Design and build a complex machine using everyday objects with the guidance of a coach. The completed machine will use multiple steps to complete a simple task. Teams showcase and exhibit their machine and are scored on their Team Journal, Team Presentation, and Machine Design and Operation. Successful teams advance to the finals at the Minnesota State Engineering Center of Excellence.
Learning objectives include:
- Engineering Creativity and Innovation: Participants will harness their creative thinking abilities to conceive and design a complex machine that utilizes ordinary objects in inventive ways.
- Collaborative Problem-Solving and Communication: Teams will collaboratively navigate the challenges of designing and building a complex machine. By working together, they will develop effective communication skills, learn to share ideas, negotiate solutions, and make collective decisions.
- Integrated Engineering Assessment and Presentation: Participants will gain proficiency in documenting their design process and operational outcomes through the creation of a comprehensive Team Journal. They will also develop strong presentation skills to effectively showcase their machine's design, functionality, and the rationale behind their decisions. This experience will cultivate their ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and receive constructive feedback.
This opportunity is offered at no cost to CESA 10 districts participating in College & Career Readiness including: Abbotsford, Altoona, Augusta, Bloomer, Bruce, Cadott, Chippewa Falls, Colby, Eleva-Strum, Flambeau, Gilmanton, Greenwood, Ladysmith, Lake Holcombe, Loyal, Mondovi, Neillsville, New Auburn, Osseo-Fairchild, Owen-Withee and Spencer.
The cost for all others will be $100 per school.
