This workshop is exclusively available to 2011-2012 Peer Review and Mentoring Grant Member Districts:  Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan, Arcadia, Bangor, Blair-Taylor, Black River Falls, Cashton, Cochrane-Fountain City, De Soto, Hillsboro, Independence, La Farge, Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton, Royall, Sparta, Viroqua, Westby, West Salem, Whitehall and Wonewoc-Center Educators.

About Mentoring
PI-34 requires school districts to provide a qualified mentor for initial Educators. A qualified mentor is one who holds an appropriate, valid professional educator license, and has been trained to mentor. Their role is to determine beginning educators’ needs, review the Wisconsin Educator Standards, and discuss issues and challenges facing initial educators.

Workshop Components

  •  Overview of PI 34 with particular attention to the PDP process and Wisconsin Educator Standards 
  • Focus on teacher standards 3, 4, 5, & 8 (focus on teaching practices)
  • Role of the mentor within different mentoring models Understanding needs of beginning educators 
  • Professional Development Plan Process 
  • Coaching skills - using the coaching process in working with Initial Educators 
  • Process of reflection - reflective listening, reflective conferencing, using reflection to analyze teaching practices 
  • Forming a collaborative relationship - confidentiality in the relationship 
  • Classroom observation skills
  • Development of goals for the working relationship of mentor and Initial Educator (having a "road map" to follow)
  • Components of a quality induction program
  • Data collection and analysis to assist Initial Educator in gathering evidence of improved student learning for PDPs

Lunch and materials are included.

 Pre-registration is required. Registration Deadline: January 15th.

Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.


Dietary Restrictions: Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.


Weather Conditions: If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA 4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.
