TDC - Child Development

Course Description

Participants will receive an overview of the theory and principles of human growth and development from conception through adolescence with a focus on the inter-relatedness of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional aspects of child development. Children are constantly growing and changing. Scholars will acquire the knowledge and skills essential to the care and guidance of children. Development is studied in the context of family, gender, culture, language, ability, socio-economics, diversity, and society, as these are the factors influencing a child’s development.  Special emphasis will be placed on the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Erickson, Gardner, Dweck, and Chapman.
