A thinking student is an engaged student.
CESA 10 is happy to partner with Peter Liljedahl and his Building Thinking Classrooms, for our keynote speaker for the 2023-2024 school year. Peter is a sought after presenter who has given talks all over the world on the topic of Building Thinking Classrooms, for which he has had much recognition and received awards for.
The simple goal--to increase the number of students thinking, and to increase the number of minutes during which they were thinking. Peter Liljedahl knew that a thinking student is an engaged student, and an engaged student is more likely to be a student who not only learns, but retains what they learn, and can build on and apply what they learn to new situations.
Building Thinking Classrooms is the culmination of 15 years of research, led by Dr. Liljedahl, in which he worked with over 400 K - 12 teachers to try to break through any and all institutional norms to get students to think.
Through his research, Peter and his colleagues deeply examined a comprehensive list of considerations, organized around the 14 factors that make up the core of every teacher's practice. And within these factors, he looked for--and found--the optimal practices for thinking when teaching and learning mathematics in any grade K - 12. Peter then organized these practices into the Building Thinking Classrooms framework.
Please join us in person for a day of learning around practices that support student engagement and thinking in any classroom! Registration is limited to 60 participants, so sign up early!
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will learn about the research behind the Building Thinking Classrooms framework.
- Participants will look deeply at the practices of the Building Thinking Classrooms framework that help students take responsibility for their own learning as well as help them to move collective knowing and doing into individual knowing and doing.
- Participants will explore the ways in which the Building Thinking Classrooms framework creates equity in the classroom while leveraging the powers of diversity present in all classrooms.
