Building Powerful Numeracy for Middle and High School Students

March 7, 2023

9:00 AM - 2:30 PM

CESA #12 Conference Center

As secondary math teachers, we know the importance of our students having attained automaticity of their math facts.  The reality is that not all students have automaticity, yet.  The goal of this workshop is to provide teachers with the tools and activities necessary to help their students build numeracy. Based on Pam Harris's Building Powerful Numeracy for Middle and High School Students this workshop engages teachers in powerful ways to help students develop efficient and sophisticated numeracy strategies. Participants will experience Problem Strings and activities specifically created for the secondary level to help students construct powerful numerical relationships and connections that lead to success in higher math.

The workshop will focus on main numeracy strategies, big ideas, and models for each operation as well as how those strategies ideas and models relate to higher mathematics.

The training will include the cost of the 306-page activity book:  "Lessons and Activities for Building Powerful Numeracy" written by Pamela Harris.  This book will include "Students Workouts" and teacher-directed activities to build a solid numeracy base for all students.  You will receive your activity book at the workshop.
