Hacking Deficit Thinking: Shifting from What's Wrong to What's Strong

For far too long, the field of education has focused on what’s wrong with students, staff, and even parents. Deficit thinking is the culprit. Now, more than ever, is the time to shift from what’s wrong to what’s strong. In this session, you will be inspired and energized to support youth from a strength-based approach and to begin hacking deficit thinking.

Deep Dive: How to SPOT Strengths in Your Students' Practical Strategies to Start Tomorrow

Let’s prioritize helping students build their strengths and practice using them daily. By taking a strength-based approach to education, you can help your students develop their skills and talents to realize their full potential. Educators (and even parents) who use a strength-based approach will help children become more invested in their learning and more engaged in the classroom. In this session, participants will be able to describe key elements of a strength-based approach and then apply the SPOT strategy to develop student strengths tomorrow!

Closing Keynote:

Tim Clue

Education, a funny thing
The Unlikely Teacher

LOL connection for all minds of all kinds! A moment of LOL wellness, team-building recognition, and reward for educators and schools is long overdue for maxed-out teachers and staff. Tim’s presentation demonstrates the art of teaching through engagement and laughter. This Keynote celebrates and rewards educators and reminds everyone how stumbling forward sideways and backward is a part of the great educational experience.

BIO:

Long before he was an educator, professional speaker, comic, published playwright and father, Tim was an undiagnosed hyper-active dyslexic rug rat raised in a small rural town outside of Chicago. By 24, Tim was an award-winning college professor and coach of a nationally-recognized speech team. By 30 he established himself as a nationally recognized comic opening for Jerry Seinfeld and performing for a former President, George Bush Senior. By 40 Tim was published playwright. Now this transformative speaker, educator and writer is helping reshape the way educators build culture and connection for minds in the making. Tim transformed his struggles in the classroom to become the teacher he never had and now mentors a nation into rethinking our 21st century education. “We must create lifelong curious learners more capable to light the path to their own journey."
