Too often play is set in direct opposition to work, when in reality, play is the engine of learning for children. Teachers, administrators, and coaches join Kristine (Kristi) Mraz for this four-part virtual series and reclaim a playful and joyful spirit by exploring and then teaching the myriad of ways play can be used to facilitate social-emotional and academic growth.

ACCESS TO WEBINAR RECORDINGS: Registrants will receive one-week access to each of the four webinar recordings.  Receive the recordings all at one time or pace the recordings based on your schedule.

 

PART 1:  WHY PLAY? A CLOSER LOOK AT THE PHILOSOPHY

  • Examine different types of play and reflect on the balance of play in your classroom / school

  • Explore the physical environment: spaces for play and materials to support powerful play
  • Explore the emotional environment: creating a playful and caring culture


PART 3:  PLAY WORKSHOP: ROUTINES & PROCEDURES TO SUPPORT PLAYERS

  • Examine the components of a Play Workshop structure
  • Take a closer look at the process of choosing centers / play themes
  • Explore the importance of supporting players in developing stamina (persevering through challenges and boredom)


PART 4:  STAGES OF PLAY

  • Explore the stages of play to observe and coach into during play

Kristine Mraz

Kristi has been the Literacy and Instructional Coach for New York City Public Schools, a special education Kindergarten teacher, and an author and consultant. She works with schools across the country and around the world on early literacy, play, and inquiry-based learning. Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
