TDC - Meeting the Needs of English Learners - VIRTUAL

Course Description

This offering is aligned with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Guidelines for EL/Bilingual-Bicultural Education.  This course will explore the theories, best practices, and legal responsibilities when working with English Learners (ELs) in K-12 schools.  Also, we will study the 2020 WIDA English Language Development Standards (ELD) and discuss their incorporation into the teaching of ELs in mainstream classrooms, as well as, in EL and bilingual (first language) classrooms.  In addition, we will examine the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) which can be implemented in all classrooms to integrate the academic skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in content area instruction.
