Description: This series of virtual sessions is perfect for the elementary educator who is curious about the basics of NGSS. We will begin with a look at the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education. Participants will be introduced to the three dimensions of NGSS; the Science & Engineering Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Cross-cutting Concepts, as well as become aware of the characteristics that are found in lessons that are aligned with NGSS performance expectations. We will end with a look at available resources for learning more about NGSS.

Goal(s):

  • Become aware of the vision for science education based on the NGSS
  • Understand the structure & purpose of the NGSS
  • Explore some of the best practices for shifting instruction that is aligned with NGSS
