Working Toward a Three-Dimensional Approach to 6th-12th Grade Science Learning

The Next Generation Science Standards encourage a multifaceted approach to teaching and learning. This more holistic view also mirrors many of the goals of environmental education, making the environment a great context for learning science. In this workshop, we will explore what it means to teach science in a “three-dimensional” way, model what phenomenon-based learning can look like in the middle and high school grades, and dissect familiar lessons to look for their connections to the NGSS approach. We will use the LEAF Forestry Education Curriculum, and Project Learning Tree’s Explore Your Environment and Focus on Forests activity guides to learn more about how crosscutting concepts, disciplinary core ideas, and science and engineering practices can be woven into existing curriculum. We will then take some time to plan and create well-rounded science units that are ready for the upcoming school year.

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
