Two-Day Professional Development for Social Studies and ELA Teachers!

Presenters: Latricia Johnson and Sam Golberg, Director of Education, Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC)

Cost: $20, lunch included

Description: The Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC) will be hosting a professional development to prepare educators to implement Act 30. Topics include Holocaust history, methodology for teaching the Holocaust and other genocides -including the 1994 genocide in Rwanda- and a workshop on their new teacher training tool, the Holocaust Education Map.

The interactive, hands-on workshop will provide educators with tangible resources, lesson plans, and exercises they can use in their classroom.

About the Presenters:

Latricia Johnson joins the Curriculum and Coaching Center of Excellence as a English Language Arts/Literacy Consultant. Latricia worked most recently in Milwaukee Public Schools as a District School Improvement Coordinator and has worked in the Beloit and West Allis/West Milwaukee School Districts. She has extensive experience providing educational leadership support services that focus on planning, developing frameworks, models and implementation strategies that support equity for all children.

Originally from Redondo Beach, California, Sam Golberg received her Bachelor’s degree from California State University Channel Islands in Communication for Nonprofit Business. In 2019, she graduated from Uppsala University with her Master’s in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Her thesis project took her to Rwanda where she researched the impact nonprofit peace education has had on the young generation. It was this interest in genocide education that brought her to HERC, where she works to engage teachers and students to learn stories from the Holocaust so the world can confidently say ‘Never Again’.
